At this point I am apologizing every time for such large gaps in between posts so let’s just pretend I intended for this to be a biannual thing.
Totally Killer: 4/5 stars
This one is sooo fun. I already separately really like both Kiernan Shipka and Julie Bowen which somewhat inspired the watch but it was just a fun goofy time — with a bit of murder.
Renfield: 3/5 stars
This movie is so odd. You can probably assume that from the fact that it stars Nic Cage as Dracula but it really is just so strange. Frankly that’s all I have.
Interview with the Vampire: 4/5 stars
I really really liked this and I wish I could watch it for the first time again. Can you tell I like fantastical weird movies?
The Iron Claw: 4/5 stars
I looked up the actual story after only to find out that the true story is so much sadder?? And the movie’s version of events is already so tragic. I want to watch it again because it’s really good but it is also just so sad. It does also have a perfect sountrack — Tom Sawyer, Don’t Fear the Reaper, Gamblin’ Man, Thank God I’m a Country Boy, and Texas (When I Die) have all been on my playlist ever since I saw the movie.
The Virgin Suicides: 3/5 stars
I watched this after seeing someone else say The Iron Claw is The Virgin Suicides for boys. They were wrong. There is no wrestling in this one. Also they’re really not that similar aside from the tragedy. Not really for me.
Bottoms: 5/5 stars
I technically saw spoilers for this movie before watching but it was so ridiculous I assumed they were joking. They weren’t. Bottoms is completely absurd, exactly what I needed, and somehow one of the most realistic movies in this list.
Bodies Bodies Bodies: 4/5 stars
I’m usually not a slasher girl but this one is good!! Slasher for people who aren’t into slashers.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage: 2.5/5 stars
Such a disappointing follow up to a really entertaining movie. I hate it when these things just become monster vs monster. I don’t care about that, I want the emotion of two people fighting!
Black Swan: 4/5 stars
I don’t know if I’m smart enough for this. I will revisit in 15 years.
Ninotchka: 4/5 stars
I had to watch this for class and had my doubts about an old black and white movie but I was really entertained.
Dune: Part Two: 4.5/5 stars
LISAN AL GAIB!!! Dune is so fascinating. Like what is going on but also I’m entranced.
Anatomy of a Fall: 4.5/5 stars
Love the ambiguity, love the stellar child and dog acting. I do not have a good enough attention span for subtitles.
Challengers: 4.5/5 stars
My first ever screener. I felt so fancy and cool seeing it before it actually came out. I loved it so much. Zendaya is awesome. Everyone go watch Spielberg’s West Side Story and fully appreciate Mike Faist.
The Idea of You: 3/5 stars
Was just like a little bit off. Also imagine you go to a meet and greet for your favorite musician and he hooks up with your mom I’d be pissed.
The Fall Guy: 4/5 stars
A really good time in the theater and a better actual movie than I expected. The epic version of I Was Made for Loving You was so cool.
Ella Enchanted: 4/5 stars
I watched this on the plane because it is not on any streaming services beside United inflight entertainment and had a blast. Anne Hathaway is so good in silly little movies.
Descendants: The Rise of Red: 2.5/5 stars
Disclaimer I know I’m 19 and this is for kids and I have nostalgia for the original three movies. Ok now that that is out of the way, this is so much worse than the first ones. The songs just aren’t good and the plot frankly doesn’t make sense. They kept building up to the ball where it all goes down and the Queen of Hearts becomes mean and then it just… didn’t happen?? Kids deserve plot hole-free movies!!
X-Men: First Class: 4/5 stars
I can’t believe I hadn’t seen any X-Men movies before this, it’s awesome. Magneto was in the right BTW.
X-Men: Days of Future Past: 2.5/5 stars
I guess this would’ve made more sense if I didn’t jump around in the series but the filmmakers should’ve considered I had no desire to watch the earlier ones.
X-Men: Apocalypse: 3/5 stars
I watched this not that long ago and I can’t actually remember a single detail but I guess I had a good time?
Dark Phoenix: 2.5/5 stars
This was frustrating and angsty and made me annoyed.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine: 4/5 stars
I’ve only actually seen Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman-type roles so he’s more of a theater guy to me. The clip of him performing Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin' will forever be in my head. Anyways turns out he’s good at the whole action movie thing too!! Obsessed with the Wolverine hair tufts to make little ears.
Williamsburg: The Story of a Patriot: 2/5 stars
Why yes, this is the movie that plays continuously at Colonial Williamsburg! Yes I did watch it in my American Revolution-focused history class! It is, shockingly, not very good.
Man of Steel: 2.5/5 stars
I kind of hate this version of Superman…. Clark Kent wouldn’t act like this, I know him better than Zack Snyder does. This Clark is reckless and selfish. They also make Lois dumb and one dimensional. She grew up on army bases why is she upset about using a bucket as a toilet!! She’s smart and rugged and self-sufficient #NotMySuperman #NotMyLoisLane
The Miracle of Bern: 2/5 stars
Watched an English dub of this German movie with a 5 second audio delay. Would not recommend. Redeems Nazi father. Sorry he’s not explicitly a Nazi but he did fight for Germany in World War II sooooooo
Ok that’s all for now byeeeee
I have so much to say! First of all, your review of Black Swan made me LOL for realz. Also I can't believe I gave birth to someone who likes slasher/horror movies. They make me so anxious. Love the quick takes.
